Designing the Breadvan Hommage
Welcome to a selection of photos of the Breadvan Hommage coachbuilt car. Very important in car design and coachbuilding are the many iterative stages of the design process. Automotive design is about the search and experiment. This is only achievable through a handmade sketch. These sketches and renderings help us with finding new discoveries. They also are illuminating ideas that don’t work. The sketches are presented to our client. Seeing them on a wall next to each other helps the customer to see what works. And what doesn’t. Eventually this process will produce a key sketch. This one sketch will be developed. Made into more defined and precise rendered ideas. These renders are then translated into a clay model. And that is used to make the body work. All details on the photos here were once a thought on paper!
Car body design
The evolution of the volumes, proportions, surfacing and details. Our bespoke motorcar has gone through many iterations. A design is only fully explored through endless analysing and searching. The search for unique character starts with one sketch. However, only one ends up being made in aluminium. But, as is the case with all car design projects, the very large bulk of sketches will not make it to the next stage. That is why car design is often referred to as working for the dustbin. This elaborated design process is a paramount part of our car design services. In search for an automobile that truly will reflect the owner’s wishes, a unique and distinctive design is needed. On these photos of the details, the subtleties can be seen in volumes, proportions and surfacing. But also in the application of graphics and other hand-finished elements in the body.
How to design your own car?
Detailed renderings, made after initial sketches, went through a strict selection procedure. The coachbuilder crafting the car needs detailed visual information. He starts his job working on the synthetic clay based on the final selected renderings. His artistry and expertise is also needed to make sure our design will reach its full potential in aluminium. Through the very personal collaboration with the owner, not only grand gestures are discussed. Also subtle customisation wishes are made. Look at the faux shut line in the A-pillar, which will be painted black. This will create a visor-like look. The Breadvan Hommage is a bold statement. These more up close shots of subtle details on the surfaces of the exterior, showcase how far we can go with small but significant individual design statements. Making the Breadvan Hommage a consistent piece of car design.
