Breadvan_update_050: bespoke, one-off car design

Bespoke one-off car design

We’re showing the very first ideation sketches of the project. These are the initial ideas. Thoughts being put on paper. It is a great privilege to work on this car design commission. Furthermore, the task to translate the essence of the legendary original into a contemporary design is interesting. The base car for the dream project is historically significant. Moreover, it conceptually is an exceptional match for our coachbuilding conversion. So, whilst we will remodel the complete car, we also honour the base vehicle. Our intention is to use a modern aesthetic. Boasting its very own timeless character. The design will feature soft, gentleman racer looks. Breadvan Hommage will be a respectful yet un-nostalgic homage to the past. The team is confident this coachbuilt motorcar will be a great addition to the garage of the patron.

Automotive design

These initial sketches show the search for the right proportions and outline. Also, the experiment on an interesting application of the graphical elements. Amongst these graphics are the windows. Also, air intakes on the front fender. And those on the side panel and rear fender. They are all equally important. These graphics will define interesting new character for our Breadvan Hommage. Last but not least the rake of the back. The rear end of the Breadvan has to be modernised. We will translate it all into a more sculptural expression. We’re aiming at creating sophisticated shapes, surfacing and volumes. The design team is interconnecting volumes on most of these thumbnail sketch proposals. By locking several graphics together the consistency of the design improves dramatically. The homogeneous looks we are after, ensure a great overall aesthetic.

Then the more refined renderings. The side vents will be rich in their surfacing. Including facets tilting inwards of the body. In a soft but significant manner these will catch light. Due to the extended horizontal lines, they add length and speed to the car. Despite their vertical shape they therefor won’t solely emphasize height. These horizontal shapes link with the character lines featured on the new fender vents. The renders are to present the car in a more refined way. These are sketched to a higher resolution. The shapes are now easier to read. In case of the Breadvan Hommage, some of the renderings are printed full size. As such they are used for taking measurements, by the coachbuilder. Concepts conceived as ideation sketches are brought to life in the renderings. They truly show the bespoke, unique lines. But even at this phase the experiment has not yet ended.
