A Modern Tribute to Ferrari’s Iconic Breadvan
In 1962, Ferrari ventured into uncharted territory with a unique vehicle known as the Breadvan, an aerodynamic experiment based on the Ferrari 250 GT SWB. Commissioned by Count Volpi di Misurata to challenge the newly launched 250 GTO, its distinctive shape aimed to enhance performance. Only one original Breadvan was ever built, but Dutch coachbuilder Niels van Roij Design has crafted a contemporary homage.
A single unit exists, commissioned by an enthusiast
Unveiled recently, this modern iteration, the Breadvan Hommage, is built on the Ferrari 550 Maranello platform. As with the original, only a single unit exists, commissioned by a dedicated enthusiast. The project, taking over two years to complete, followed Niels van Roij Design’s meticulous process, evolving from initial sketches to digital models, and finally, a full-scale clay model refined to perfection.

“A car is a complex, three-dimensional sculpture that must look right from all angles and under various light conditions,” explained Niels van Roij, founder of the design firm.
