Maintaining correct proportions
Niels van Roij on the Breadvan Hommage:
“It was a highly intricate project,” van Roij explained. “Adapting the Breadvan’s unique aesthetics to a fundamentally different base vehicle was challenging.” He highlighted the difficulty in perfecting the details, such as replicating the original car’s window shut lines and maintaining the correct proportions while altering the roof.
Inside the Breadvan Homage
Inside, the Breadvan Homage boasts carbon fiber sport seats wrapped in blue upholstery, switches crafted from milled aluminum, and quilted black leather alongside hand-beaten aluminum trim, all reflecting a 1960s race-inspired style. The iconic gated shifter remains, essential for preserving the car’s authentic feel, and the 550 Maranello’s six-speed manual transmission is retained.
Mechanically, the donor chassis remains largely unchanged, powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V12 engine producing 478 horsepower and 419 pound-feet of torque. This power is delivered to the rear wheels via the manual gearbox, and the car features a bespoke exhaust system. Koni designed custom shock absorbers specifically for the Breadvan, ensuring precise handling.
Prized possession in private car collection
The identity of the collector who commissioned the Breadvan Homage remains unknown, as does the car’s future. It could end up as a prized possession in a private collection or make occasional public appearances. Perhaps, in a whimsical twist, it might even be used to deliver bread.
