Coachbuilding your Mercedes-Maybach
All ultra-luxury vehicles of the Golden Era of the automobile sold as chassis only. For instance, the Duesenberg Model J, Bugatti Type 57, Cadillac V-16, Ferrari 250 and Mercedes-Benz and Maybach models. These were all produced before World War II. Many manufacturers had no in-house coachworks. Therefore, their chassis were bodied by independents. For example, most Delahayes bodies were coachbuilt by Chapron, Labourdette. In addition, Franay, Saoutchik, Figoni et Falaschi, Pennock and many more carrossiers. Cars were often mass produced after World War II. For instance, luxury chassis, high-performance sports cars and gran turismos were made as one. To clarify, this was including the bodies. As a result, many coachbuilders closed down. For instance, design houses like Zagato, Frua, Bertone, Karmann. But also Vignale, Heuliez and Pininfarina. These either closed down or changed their activities. However, we can still design and coachbuilt your Mercedes-Maybach.
The Mercedes-Maybach wood workshop
Bookmatching is the practice of matching two wood surfaces. This means two adjoining surfaces mirror each other. This gives the impression of an opened book. In addition, both veneer or solid wood can be bookmatched. The technique is used to beautify objects. For instance furniture, violins, guitars and the interiors of our high-end luxury cars. From the same pice of wood the two adjoining surfaces are produced. This will ensure they have exactly the same, mirrored, appearance. The final effect varies with the figure of the wood chosen. From extremely subtle, making the two surfaces appear almost to be a single piece of wood. Or a more outspoken and dramatic effect. We can show a wavy grain, as in high-end guitars. Marble or other patterned stone can also be bookmatched, above all other possibilities.
