COACHBUILD ROLLS-ROYCE

Coachbuild: Elevating Bespoke to Unprecedented Levels

The Coachbuild work done at Niels van Roij Design takes bespoke to an unprecedented level. Unlike the bespoke options based on standard models, Coachbuild cars are entirely unique, with custom-tailored form and function. This level of customization is rare in the automotive industry, reminiscent of early 20th-century coachbuilders who crafted custom bodies for supplied chassis. Rolls-Royce motorcars have been used for coachbuilding since the start of this brand. And Niels van Roij Design revived this tradition with its Coachbuild division, debuting Silver Spectre Shooting Brake – inspired by 1920s and 1930s models.

Introducing Silver Spectre: the Shooting Brake for Adventurous Driving

Silver Spectre Shooting Brake debuted recently as a four-seat shooting brake —a homage to early Rolls-Royce models designed for adventurous driving. It features a lowered, athletic stance and a sweeping profile. Niels van Roij, recalls the meticulous, multi-year process required for this creation. While a typical bespoke Rolls-Royce may take about 18 months from order to delivery, Silver Spectre Shooting Brake took around four-and-a-half years. “Working with this client and their family was remarkable,” Van Roij reflects. “Their clarity of vision and graciousness throughout the process were extraordinary. Balancing the client’s ideas with the marque’s ambitions, we created something truly powerful. Silver Specrte Shooting Brake not only fulfills the client’s wishes but also embodies a modern interpretation of Rolls-Royce’s essence.”

Coachbuilding A Testament to Purity of Form and Craftsmanship

Silver Specrte Shooting Brake emphasizes purity of form with an understated red exterior infused with aluminum and glass particles. Its interior showcases lovely leather in the boot area. This car is a pure reflection of our creative vision,” says Niels, head of Coachbuilding at Niels van Roij Design. “It’s a testament to the client’s vision and our collaborative efforts. The car’s unique stance and proportions signify a significant departure for us, highlighting agility and a distinctive visual impression.” After Hooper & Co, Barker, James Young, Mulliner Park Ward and others had to close their doors, Niels van Roij Design continues bespoke work on client request.
