This chapter introduces some of these terms.

Spirit of Ecstasy

The Spirit of Ecstasy: an inspirational muse, an artist’s sculpture, and an embodiment of speed and grace. Inspired by a rumored love affair, she was once known as ‘the whisper,’ posed with her finger against her lips to signify the secrecy of her hidden love. Since 1911, she has led the way with her famous silhouette, crafted in materials like gold, silver, diamond, carbon fiber, and more.

The Spirit of Ecstasy is owned by Rolls-Royce and features a mechanism that retracts her figure to protect against misfortune, ensuring she remains unscathed and proudly displayed. Unlike other manufacturers, who have opted for simpler solutions, we go the extra mile to safeguard our iconic emblem. Majestically poised, she adorns the front of every Rolls-Royce creation, ready to embrace every journey.

Car Design Lines

At Niels van Roij Design, we believe that simplicity in design is paramount. The fundamental design of every Niels van Roij Design vehicle can be captured in just a few strokes. From the iconic Silver Spectre Shooting Brake to the revolutionary Breadvan Hommage, this few-line principle ensures forms that are unique, unmistakable, and enduring in style.

Coachline

At Niels van Roij Design, one dedicated craftsman is entrusted with the final aesthetic touch: the Coachline. Using custom-made brushes, he ensures the line is precisely level and uniformly 4mm in width. This single fluid line, which can stretch up to six meters, is painted by hand with unrivaled precision, taking over three hours to complete. He then adds any requested details, emblems, or imagery as per individual orders, making the coachline the final finishing touch before a car leaves the workshop.

Starlight Headliner

Experience a ride under the stars with a shimmering celestial atlas woven into the ceiling overhead. The Starlight Headliner is personalized for each owner and can be customized to reflect a specific constellation from a particular date, such as a birthday, wedding, or anniversary. Verified by a local observatory, this feature consists of over 1,340 individually hand-woven fiber-optics. Painstakingly mapped by hand, thousands of tiny stars twinkle above the driver and passengers, creating a calm, otherworldly interior. In total, over 2km of cabling is intricately hand-woven to achieve this serene space.
